About Yasutaka Nakata (Perfume producer)

Nakata Yasutaka is a Japanese musician, producer, and DJ best known for being one half of the duo capsule, which he produces. He produced most of the music for the Konami game pop’n music 10 under the stagename “polyphonic room”.

Yasutaka began the contemode label in 2003; nearly all of the artists he produces are on this label.

Yasutaka focuses mostly on capsule, also his first unit. He frequently fuses elements of house, lounge, electronica, and bossa nova in the music he produces as well as overlooking the art design for his projects and magazines. capsule’s album L.D.K. Lounge Designers Killer reached #1 on the electronic chart for iTunes Japan. Yasutaka also makes compilation albums called “contemode V.A.”, which includes several artists he has produced.

In 2004 he worked with Momose Yoshiyuki of Studio Ghibli to create the short animated film Portable Kuukou, which is also the title of one of capsule’s song. It became a trilogy of “short short films” including two of capsule’s songs: “space station NO.9″ and “Soratobu Toshikeikaku”.

Capsule

capsule is an electronic duo on the contemode label, a label started by the band’s producer Nakata Yasutaka. They made their major debut in 2001 with Yamaha Music. Their music has included elements of all sorts of styles, including French pop, bossa nova, lounge house, and pop-synth.

capsule’s first single was Sakura in March 2001 on Yamaha Music. Their first album is significantly different from any of their later works in that it doesn’t involve near as much synth or contain a futuristic/electronic sound.

In 2003, Yasutaka created his own label contemode and has produced other artists on the label, including Nagisa Cosmetic and copter4016882. He also has produced girl-pop trio Perfume since 2003.
