Perfume will make a special appearance on the big screen, and not just in the Cars 2 variety, when they show up in the motion picture Moteki on September 23 in Japan. The girls show up with the film’s hero Yukiyo to celebrate his elated joy by taking part in a performance of “Baby Cruising Love.”

Their appearance isn’t out of thin air, as Perfume’s music, including “Baby Cruising Love,” had been featured on the Moteki drama, for which the film is based. Regardless of the connection, the comedy marks another positive footnote in Perfume’s spectacular 2011.

Japanese promotion for Cars 2 is revving up as the film gets its Japanese release and Perfume are front and center with spots at the premiere and various television work in its anticipation. The girls were focal points at a traditionally theme premiere and are also a part of the further promotions by hosting their own series of 15 second spots discussing the film in addition to being the first thing seen when visiting the Japanese site.

The promotions have seen a renewed interest in the nearly four-year-old song “Polyrhythm” as well, with the girls performing it on various music programs in recent weeks. Also on television, Perfume appeared on the popular variety show Himitsu no Arashi-chan!, hosted by popular boy band Arashi in an episode where Perfume spent the day with Jun Matsumoto and Masaki Aiba picking strawberries, getting frozen in a mountain simulator, being scared witless in a haunted house, enjoying ice cream and carousels, and having a peaceful dinner interrupted by a dancing bowl of ramen (who was quite adept to “Chocolate Disco” and “A-Ra-Shi”).

The adventure was a great example of what makes Perfume such an appealing group, and why being a Perfume fan doesn’t stop at being a fan of their music. Even if you aren’t able to fully understand the content, the girls’ charm and wit make it very easy to enjoy. It’s a good time to be a Perfume fan; the girls are highly visible and making various appearances around television. Hopefully with the high visibility can lead to some positive news regarding their music soon.

For the past few months the announcement of Perfume’s Polyrhythm to be a featured track in Disney Pixar’s Cars 2 score sent shockwaves through the J-pop industry and especially us fans. Although a seemingly common announcement, the major difference here comes with the fact that Polyrhythm, which set the stage for Perfume’s rise to stardom, is to be featured not just in the Japanese version, but it is considered to be an official track that would be played in all versions of the movie worldwide. It is an honor for Perfume’s music to be featured in an actual Hollywood movie!

5 years after the first movie, the setting Cars 2 takes its characters around the globe to participate in the first World Grand Prix. As one of the main settings takes place in Japan, Polyrhythm was chosen to be featured during a Tokyo club scene. More details about the soundtrack selection can be found in this video. On Friday, we received a last-minute surprise announcement of the girls attendance of the Cars 2 Hollywood premiere on Saturday June 18 at the El Capitain Theatre. Those lucky enough to be within the area got a rare chance at seeing our favorite girls! Of course, many media outlets were there to cover the event as well. In particular, a stream was provided by X17 for fans around the world who could not make it to the premiere in time.

Overall the girls seemed very excited to be in LA, meeting Hollywood celebrities, overwhelmed to be at the premiere, and of course they were grateful to see American/overseas fans come down to the premiere to give their support and love. In an interview Nocchi stated that they’d love to come back to Los Angeles to do a LIVE show, so perhaps more overseas performances, or even a world tour, may be in store for the future. As for now, I was able to be at the red carpet event after driving 5 hours down the same morning, as well as take many wonderful fan photos alongside my fellow Perfume fans, many hailing from Perfume City as well! Perfume’s much anticipated appearance at this year’s MAMA 2010 in Macau came and went, with over 30,000 online viewers watching the show via the AKP online stream alone. The girls experienced loud screams from fans at their Red Carpet appearance and responded by doing their trademark introduction in Korean! As for their stage, the girls performed Nee and a the classic Chocolate Disco.  In addition to performing, they also went home with the Best Asia Pop Artist Award! Congratulations, girls!
